What people think about us!

We bought Anderton Mill in 1973. It was then a complete ruin; the roof had gone and trees grew inside the building! The mill was converted into a home over a period of 20 years – the major limiting factors being time and money. In 1994 we decided to let the mill in order to recoup some of the expenditure and finance further improvements. Our first season was, we think, very successful. We let 19 weeks between April and October and also managed to fit in 5 weeks ourselves! Our guests seemed very happy with the place and since then we have successfully fully let the mill, with the largest number of lettings being re-bookings and recommendations. Printed below are below are some of the comments that we have received from people who have stayed over the last few years.

‘Words cannot express just how much we enjoyed our stay at Anderton Mill……the scenery was breathtaking……I found myself getting up at 6am just to listen to the water and see the dawn.’

Mrs S Holmes and family

‘We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Mill; it is truly an idyllic spot. The Mill is a splendid place for a relaxing holiday and the care and attention that you have put into renovating it and the garden is a delight to see. Thank you for allowing us to share your special holiday home with us.’

Mr and Mrs Morris and family

‘My husband and I had a fabulous week’s holiday. The cottage is lovely and the garden was very pleasant to sit in and while away the sunny days……the Valency Valley walk to Boscastle is very pretty……we would like to hire the cottage next year….’

Mr and Mrs Allen (stayed every year for 19 years!)

‘We very much enjoyed our week at the cottage and the tranquillity of its setting. This made a very relaxing time.’

Chris Malin

‘We had a great time….we managed to see the badgers during your suggested evening stroll and took several photos from only a few feet away…..we also managed to see a barn owl and a massive buzzard. Our 4 year old daughter enjoyed the beaches almost as much as the stretch of river.’

Mr and Mrs Humphreys

‘We had a dream of a holiday in your cottage, even the weather was on our side for a change! .....we have never had a holiday in Cornwall before where we have done so little mileage!! A wonderful ‘unwinding’ holiday.’

Mr and Mrs Taylor

‘We had a most enjoyable stay at the Mill. The beauty and tranquillity of the valley were matched by your cottage. Kernow at its best!’

Mr and Mrs Knott

‘We found your cottage and its surroundings a magical place….we felt the energy and love you have put in……we had a very happy time here’

So, what’s gone wrong!? In 1996 a wild ferret ‘broke into the bathroom’ whilst a female guest was having a shower….And we have had to turn away a lot of folk who wanted to stay, as we were already fully booked. However our biggest disaster was the Boscastle flood of 16th August 2004; about 70% of the water that surged through Boscastle went past our property first. Many thanks to our insurance company for the new riverside terrace – a real bonus to all our guests! After 20 years without television, in 2006 we gave in and now have Freeview. We aim to provide very good accommodation at a reasonable cost and hope to keep advertising costs down by rebookings and recommendations.
