Things to do

Within Seconds: Explore around the cottage! Find the bluebell wood in Spring, climb to the treehouse and take a scramble in the river (even follow it down to Boscastle). Kids love making dams and pond dipping – catch a trout for tea! Bird watch from the riverside patio, read a book in the shade of an oak tree or count the Pipistrelle bats emerging from the eaves at dusk.

Walks: North Cornwall is renowned for its spectacular walks. At the cottage we have a folder detailing some stunning local walks. Some, eg Crackington Haven to Boscastle, are more challenging than others. One which is frequently completed by our guests is the walk to Boscastle via St Juliot church; beautiful at all times of the year. From secluded valleys to wild headlands and moorland adventures – all are available close by.

Beaches: North Cornwall is blessed with some of the finest beaches in the country. The tidal beach at Trebarwith Strand is superb for swimming, surfing, rock-pooling and fishing. Crackington Haven is an excellent family beach and is a few minutes away by car. Slightly further afield is the stunning estuary at Rock – make sure you take the ferry to Padstow, and excellent beaches at Polzeath (good for surf schools) and Daymer Bay. Finally, find time to visit ‘hidden’ Cornwall – the coast to the east of Polzeath is spectacular.

Eats: Cornwall has become something of a ‘foodies’ heaven with gourmet pasties almost the norm. Rick Stein’s Padstow (Padstein) is a mecca for some and his restaurants cover a range of tastes and bank balances. Book well in advance. Paul Ainsworth at Number 6 Middle Street provides some serious competition for Rick Stein! Local pubs also provide good food with The Port William at Trebarwith having the bonus of spectacular view, as does Green's Restaurant in Padstow. Alternatively, try some local fish or meat on the BBQ at the cottage! The upper patio is a sheltered sun trap and the built in charcoal BBQ delivers great results.
