About Anderton Mill

The cottage is located in the unspoilt and beautifully wooded Valency Valley. This is Thomas Hardy country;

Hardy met his first wife Emma Gifford at the nearby St. Juliot Vicarage and based his book, ‘A Pair of Blue Eyes’ on the valley. There are excellent walks through National Trust land to the delightful village of Boscastle (3 miles). Good surfing and bathing is available at Trebarwith Beach (7 miles) and Crackington Haven (5 miles). The cottage is only 8 miles from the rugged beauty of Bodmin Moor. The south coast (Fowey etc.) is also within easy striking distance – about 1 ¼ hours (as is the Eden Project). Fishing, golf, rock climbing and sailing are all available locally. Anderton Mill is idyllically located in its own grounds of over 7 acres. It's in a very private and secluded position - access via a private lane - and has been renovated in a sympathetic way to provide comfortable family accomodation.

The entrance is via a Cornish porch into a large beamed living room (slate floor with rugs) with polished oak window seats, huge oak and elm settle, oak corner cupboard, three piece cottage suite and wood burning stove. There is a television with reception via SKY. The kitchen has a combination of fitted elm and hand painted cupboards with granite work-tops. A dishwasher, large fridge-freezer, double oven and microwave make it a delight to work in and the kitchen is complemented by a large elm refectory table. The utility room is equipped with automatic washing machine and tumble dryer. The recently refitted bathroom is situated off the utility room.From the living room, a staircase leads to two cosy bedrooms, both with fitted carpets, elm window seats and electric fires. One is twin bedded and one double bedded; the latter with airing cupboard and glass wash basin. All the rooms are furnished to a high standard with quality furniture and attractive pictures and prints.

Outside there is a slate patio to the front of the house and a large slate riverside terrace to the rear with sun loungers, very secluded and sheltered - a real sun trap. In addition there is an ’upper barbeque area’ which catches the evening sun. A great feature for children (and adults) is a treehouse which some guests have slept in! Lawns lead down to a fast-flowing trout stream (dippers, herons and the odd kingfisher!). There is a wildlife pond, two fields of rough pasture and the remainder is heavily wooded – plenty of wildlife – otters have recently returned to the river but remain very elusive.(Note: due to the proximity of the river young children must be supervised)

The property has mains water, electricity and telephone. As it is very much our own ‘home’ you will find a certain amount of our ‘bits and pieces’ present – feel free to use and replace as necessary! High chair and cot also available.
